Georges Jacques Danton, född 26 oktober 1759 i Arcis-sur-Aube i Aube, död 5 april 1794 i Paris, var en fransk revolutionspolitiker. Han var advokat och populär

The French statesman Georges Jacques Danton (1759-1794) was a leader during the French Revolution. Called the "orator of the streets," he was the most prominent early defender of popular liberties and the republican spirit. Born in Arcis-sur-Aube in Champagne on Oct. 26, 1759, Georges Jacques Danton was the son of a Saint-Just gravitated towards the most radical revolutionaries, the Jacobins, a group that included Georges Danton, Camille Desmoulins and Maximilien Robespierre. Back in 1790 Saint-Just had written to Robespierre, declaring: ‘You whom I know only, as I know God, by his miracles.’ As well quoted as this speech is, its often forgotten that it was followed by the September Massacres. Danton, serving as Minister of Justice, essentially washed his hands as the events were happening and refused to prosecute or arrest the sans-cullottes who killed and butchered priests, common criminals, prostitutes and only few of the political prisoners that had been their intended target. 2021-04-14 GEORGE JACQUES DANTON HE was a man of Herculean proportions, with a massive head over a muscular neck, a broad brow, prominent nose, sensuous mouth, and a vigorous chin.
